At DO Botanica, all the essential oils we offer are organic, as many of you probably know very well. This makes us very happy and proud. But what is the difference between an organic and a non-organic essential oil? Why should we choose organic essential oils?
Plants produce essential oils to protect themselves from temperature changes and pest invasions, to attract pollinators and reproduce, to communicate, to heal their wounds, and, in a way, to survive. We extract these aromatic oils from the parts of plants that contain essential oil, through methods such as distillation and cold pressing, and integrate them into our lives with the intention of maintaining Body – Mind – Spirit balance.
Organic essential oils come from organically grown plants that have not been exposed to pesticides, chemical fertilizers, genetically modified organisms, antibiotics, or growth hormones throughout their entire growing cycle. Organic farming is a holistic system designed for sustainability and to create a harmonious ecosystem alongside nature.
We use essential oils frequently in our daily lives, with gratitude and respect for the power and spirit of plants, integrating them into our body and soul. They are powerful in their natural and organic environment. Think about it: if the plant or tree were not exposed to insect invasions or treated to prevent the development of fungi, its essential oils would neither smell so pleasant nor have such effective effects.
For example, citrus essential oils are obtained by cold pressing the peels of the fruit. Studies have shown that pesticides that cannot be removed from the peels are found in essential oils at levels much higher than those accepted by the European Pharmacopoeia. And in the case of oils obtained by distillation, some have been found to exceed these limits*. This means that using a non-organic essential oil can expose the body to large amounts of chemicals.
At DO Botanica, we know very well that we must share the gifts of nature without exploiting it, taking from it and giving it back. That is why all our essential oils are organic, controlled, analyzed and authorized. They come first from nature to us and then from us to you. We hope they will be as beneficial to you as they are to us.
