Aromatherapy helps us maintain balance between body, mind and soul in everyday life, but it is also one of the best allies during pregnancy, childbirth and the postnatal period, also known as the fourth trimester. It supports the body and mind, making these emotional stages gentler and more harmonious. We have gathered here our aromatherapy recommendations that can certainly accompany you on this beautiful journey.
During pregnancy
It is very important to know which essential oils are safe for you and your baby. Some of the ones considered safe include: lavender, peppermint, eucalyptus, lemon, tangerine, orange, bergamot, grapefruit, frankincense, and pine .
On the other hand, sage and rosemary essential oils should not be used during pregnancy.
In the early months, when nausea is common, you can use peppermint essential oil . Add 2-3 drops to a handkerchief or in a nebulizer and inhale as often as you feel the need throughout the day. You can also use our peppermint and eucalyptus inhalation sets or Nane Okaliptüs roll-ons , which are safe for pregnancy.
For headaches , apply a drop of peppermint or lavender essential oil to your fingertips and gently massage your temples, avoiding contact with your eyes.
In the later months, for back pain, leg pain, or muscle tension , you can prepare an aromatherapy massage oil :
Mix 50 ml of sweet almond oil or jojoba oil with 10 drops of lavender essential oil and 10 drops of frankincense essential oil , then massage the painful areas.
For water retention and heavy legs , you can use the Body Scrubs with Rose , Patchouli & Lavender or Mint & Eucalyptus . These natural exfoliants with unrefined rock salt not only reduce edema, but also help you reconnect with your body and relax more deeply.
For a restful sleep , place a drop of lavender essential oil on the corner of your pillow or spray our lavender linen spray on your pillows and sheets half an hour before bed.
To moisturize your skin and prevent stretch marks , we recommend cold-pressed shea butter , sweet almond oil , and coconut oil . You can also use our Stretch Mark Oil , specially formulated for pregnant women and loved by our customers for many years.
If your doctor recommends perineal massage , you can confidently use cold-pressed coconut oil .
For a boost of energy and optimism, choose lemon, orange or grapefruit essential oils . For relaxation and calm, choose lavender, bergamot or mandarin . You can put a few drops on a handkerchief, in a diffuser or in a warm bath.
Although sage and rosemary are prohibited during pregnancy, they become excellent allies at the time of birth , supporting the natural process of labor.
During childbirth
In addition to sage and rosemary , you can also use lavender, lemon, orange, tangerine, bergamot, grapefruit, rose, frankincense, and jasmine .
As soon as labor begins, you can prepare a massage oil for the lower abdomen with a contraction-stimulating effect:
10 drops of sage , 10 drops of lavender and 10 drops of lemon in a base of 50 ml of sweet almond or jojoba oil.
These oils can also be added to bath water — either directly in the shower or in a basin or tub, diluted in a tablespoon of liquid Castile soap , for even dispersion.
A great ally during labor is rose essential oil . You can inhale directly from the bottle, apply a rose roll-on , or spray rose water on your face, chest, and wrists to center yourself and raise your vibration.
Don't forget to add a diffuser , your favorite oils , and our soy candles with essential oils to your maternity bag to transform the birthing space into a place full of calm and positive energy.
After birth
During breastfeeding, to soften and protect your nipples , apply cold-pressed shea butter or coconut oil after each feeding. Before your next session, gently wipe the area with a warm, damp cloth.
To heal postpartum scars (either natural or after a cesarean section), apply St. John's wort oil (Hypericum perforatum) to the affected area.
Aromatherapy, when used correctly and in appropriate doses, can be used safely at all stages of life . During pregnancy, when your body is nurturing a new life, it is essential to choose natural products, free of harmful chemicals , not only for your health, but also for the health of the planet. Always check that essential oils are organic and vegetable oils are cold-pressed .
